Plein Air….Plants

PhFl2

Hello….Spring!!

Back1

I really enjoy this view from my study in my new house.

Back2

So, one day I tried to capture it.

Back3

I first, just got some basic shapes down, and lots of green for those trees.

Back4

When I was done, I went back in and outlined with my micro pen.  The above portion is not outlined and the lower portion was.  I prefer to outline but I don’t dislike the look when it’s not.

Here’s my cactus for my daily Watercolor month last July.

Floral

My front door with a potted plant that stayed strong the entire summer!

Floral6

My Christmas tree sans ornaments.

Floral3

Here’s a truck from a flower farmer (@floretflower) that I follow on instagram.  Drawn from my ipad feed.

And most recently, my precious plant that was given to me a few years ago.  Grown from a cut off of my grandmothers stock.  A most interesting house plant that can handle my neglect.

Now, I’m off to enjoy this nice weather!

Fun Flowers in watercolor

PjFl3

Took the above picture at Chelsea Market during my trip to NYC!  Just looking at this makes me hopeful for an early beautiful spring.

Flo7

Did some simple watercolor doodles in my moleskine one day….

Flo1

Took that same page 6 months later and expanded on it.  Amazing that I really have to look for the original forms.

Flo3

Got one of my fun stencils out…and wanted to do a hawaiian type of design inside the petals.

Flo4

Then I put in a black and white background.  Fun illustration practice.  I’ll do something like this again.

Flo5

No stencils here…just illustrated floral doodles.

Flo6

Then the fun part…..coloring Smile

Flo2

Used a simple stencil to create the leaves, then colored in…I wanted to see how this inexpensive watercolor set holds up and if it looks vivid or watered out.  I think it held up rather well!

Plein Air….Structure

Struct1

My back porch is THE place that I gain Calmness!  Drew this for the July World Watercolor challenge.

Misc5

I’m an inspiration “junkie”!  I’ve had this little Angel for more than 10 years!

Struct3

Since I wasn’t in Rome painting this weekend, I painted the next best thing.

Struct2

My view from my desk chair, and just trying to keep things loose.

Struct4

It’s really all about perspective…. and my entertainment center gave me lots of practice.

Struct5

Headed out to a local park last Fall and drew this helicopter.  I’m trying to take advantage of those beautiful day, in a drawing kind of way!

I’m on board to “Make America Great Again”!  But apparently I miscounted the stripes!

Plein Air….Birds-n-Bridges

Letter1

Lets hear it for Friday!!!

Bird1

I have a thing for Cardinals, so during the July World Watercolor Challenge, I drew this candle holder.

Bird2

On another day in July, I drew this bluejay off of an image on the internet.

Bird3

You got me!!! This is not a bird, but she’s a bit of a beast!  A lovely beast….Our City has many artistic horses throughout town in honor of Horse Country or Derby…not sure which?  The program is called Gallopalooza.  Life size horse statues are painted colorfully and are bought by individuals or cooperations.

Bridge3

Took myself out to dinner last winter and found the perfect spot!

Bridge4

Bridges can be intimidating….but…the trick is to “see the patterns”, cuz they are there.

Bridge6

That same bridge, but on the Indiana side!  Beautiful day for drawing too Smile

Block Color Subjects

Girl2

Saw this picture on Instagram and I immediately wanted to draw it.

Girl1

First….I made a grid for the blocks of color….Then I drew the contour of the subject.

Girl3

I adjusted a few things, and played with the watercolor.  A good simple exercise to get me back in line to draw people in watercolor.

Heart2

On another day…I didn’t want to think about drawing, but I wanted to paint.  So I made a bunch of random squares and rectangles, then proceeded to color them in.

Heart3

Heart4

Zoned out to Adele….

Heart5

This quote has stuck with me.  I know there’s One that wants me at my best…

Plein Air…. Drink and Draw

Pub5

This is my favorite Adult Beverage….but I was not drinking it when I drew this pic off of an image on my ipad.  This drawing was for the July World Watercolor Monthly Challenge.

Starbuck

And this one was at Starbucks….where it’s White Chocolate Mocha’s that I digest!  Yum!

Starbuck2

And another Starbucks setting, where I wanted to capture the subjects in a bigger mode, as in, the people take up all the space in my moleskine….Ran out of time ….again!

Game1

This one is hard…College football games can be quite distracting…lots of movement, lots of Energy!  Love that Energy, unless it’s being directed to me in the form of  “Why aren’t you paying any attention to the game?”!  Gotta love the honesty of loved ones (offspring), but you also gotta do what you gotta do to survive a 4 hour event Smile  .

Game2

During this football game….less energy than the seats in the middle of the “student/band crowd”….where I could actually capture some details….And to my chagrin, enjoy the game.

Pub1

With my schedule…I’m usually ready for dinner at 4pm…so on the days that I’m not responsible for dinner at home….I’ll head out to a local restaurant where hopefully people have bellied up to the bar and I can practice my art!  And by the time I’ve consumed a beer or two….I’ve made some new friends out of the staff or the patrons.

Pub2

The absolute hardest part about drawing people in public….is them spotting me!  Cuz sometimes they’ll totally change stance, or they keep looking my way….hard to notice details when I have to keep averting my eyes!   I swear the guy in green was on to me!

Pub3

Pubs are a really good place to practice brick-painting.  As in copying the look of brick in watercolor.

Pub4

I learn the best from my pieces after posting them somewhere.  Here is no exception….those table angles look like the back wall was not even.   I now know I’ve got to get that perspective right early on.

Pub5 (2)

This piece was done last week….I really tried to use the lesson from the last piece and keep those table angles in line!  I could do this every day!  I’d learn something new everyday too!

About Me

My photo
By day...I work in the Healthcare field, where every .. i.. has to be dotted and every ..t.. has to be crossed. This blog is the place where I can let myself go and have some fun. I am on a journey. A journey I started a long time ago, but it has been a bit sidetracked with Navy Wife relocations and raising kids. I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I have got some time for me. No, I will not be one of those moms walking around the house with Empty Nest Syndrome, I have got way too much to do, to learn, to create. Sure, once the kids are gone I will miss them....but hey, there is always the phone, the email, the texting and the Plane tickets! I love my life and my family and It is fun moving into this new stage. I am into Digital Scrapbooking, photography, journaling, Art Journaling and Drawing. I am a do-it-yourselfer and I am trying to teach myself to draw. I am finding that it takes a lot of patience, lots of practice and a good eraser!
